Klaus, the Wondering Soul

Klaus, once a stray black cat roaming the slums of Loras Cloth, was captured by thugs and delivered to the Grand Cloth, the mysterious and feared leader of the Merchant Guild. The Grand Cloth, working with an Elder Lich named Hod, intended to use Klaus in a dark experiment to create a living phylactery for Hod's soul. This experiment was part of many conducted by the Grand Cloth, who was later revealed to be an Illithid, a creature not previously documented in this world. A group of adventurers, investigating another of the Grand Cloth’s schemes, defeated the Illithid but lost an ally in the process. They discovered Klaus in a hidden room among experimental vats and a tadpole brine pool.

Klaus, upon escaping the vat, encountered an enchanted mirror that showed the souls of deceased children. When he touched the mirror, the souls entered his body, causing him to gain a patch of white hair, purple-hued eyes, and a split tail. This transformation endowed Klaus with new knowledge and awareness of his identity. Seeking answers about his true nature, Klaus approached the adventurers and, discovering he could communicate like a human, convinced them to let him join their quest. Although he only knows that he is Klaus, he is determined to uncover the meaning behind his transformation.
